Welcome to Sunshine Meditation Center (Mahamevnawa Florida)
The Sunshine Meditation Center is a branch of Mahamevnawa Meditation Monastery in Sri Lanka. SMC works as Mahamevnawa Meditation Center Florida (MMMF). The SMC will provide a quiet, peaceful refuge for all humanity (both Buddhists and non-Buddhists alike) with facilities that promote meditation, personal reflection, and spiritual growth. It is our goal to lessen, and inevitably eliminate, the suffering of all beings. We will emphasize the universal teaching of the Buddha that can be applied to modern life. We encourage everyone to take what they can use, nothing more. We offer the following services, free of charge, to members and guests of the MMMF:
~Personal counsel & spiritual guidance
~Meditation instruction & guidance
~Teach Buddhist philosophy & psychology
~Perform Religious & Cultural Ceremonies
~Teach Pāli and the Tipitaka
For those interested, we will hold many retreats throughout the year, as well.
Established in 2005.
Mahamevnawa (pron. “Mahaa-mew-nava” is Sinhalese for the Pali word “Mahamegha” which latterly means “great cleansing rain shower” and was the name of the royal park in ancient Sri Lanka where the first Buddhist monk upon arrival on the island of Sri Lanka delivered a discourse of the Buddha by reciting from memory and thus instructing the listeners in the teaching of the Buddha) Buddhist Monastery is an organization of Buddhist monasteries, of Sri Lankan origin established to benefit the spiritual development of human beings using the teachings of the Gautama Buddha. Its main monastery is in Polgahawela, Sri Lanka, and Sri Lanka is home to 35 branches of the organization. Overseas branches are in Canada, USA, Australia, UK and Germany.
