I have been certified in Massage Therapy, with Specialization in Sports Massage for over a decade and am regarded as one of the best, most qualified massage therapists in the state of Florida. Only 6 months into my massage therapy career, I was hired as an Independant Contractor by the New York Yankees for Spring Training and have worked with them every year since. In addition, when any injured players are sent in town for rehabilitation after injury or surgery, the team will have me come in to work as part of the Rehablitation Team. Aside from the New York Yankees, I have numbers of current and former professional football, baseball and other athletes that are absolutely loyal to me and swear by my services. I have worked with athletes in all aspects of treatment; maintenance, injury, and rehabilitation. All treatment is designed to the specific needs of the individual athlete.
I started KnotDoctor Massage Therapy, now KnotDoctor Athletic Treatment Center, after I graduated from massage school in August 2000. From the beginning of my career, I knew I was destined to be working in sports with athletes of all kinds. Six months later, I was working my first Spring Training with the New York Yankees. Later that year, in July 2001, I was working with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers at their training camp.
That same year, I provided massage therapy services for the Coca-Cola Classic Davis Island Triathlon. I have also been working as a ‘Independent Contractor’ with the Yankees at their Rehabilitation Center in Tampa, Florida. I have worked with athletes in great condition to help them stay that way but I have also worked on athletes 3 weeks out of surgery at their most critical stages of rehabilitation. I also traveled with the team in 2004 to Japan in the Opening Series of the season which was an amazing experience. I continue to work with athletes from all types of sports and people from all walks of life.
So…what brought me to Massage. I was a successful stock broker for 7 years. The last 9 months of my career had culminated in being a Sales Supervisor at a branch in Clearwater, Florida with over $1 Billion in assets. The time finally came in 1999 when the stress of a changing business environment and large amounts of stress led to three months of frozen vocal chords. By then, I had come to the conclusion that I wanted to be a Massage Therapist. By February 2000, I knew it was time to make the change and did so. I visited the Suncoast School of Massage Therapy in Tampa, Florida and there were three professors that were working with pro sports teams. One was with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and the other two were with the New York Yankees (as Independent Contractors). That sealed the deal for me and I turned to my friend and said, “I am telling you right now–I will be working with one of these teams after I graduate”.
I was by no means a great athlete but I did play a lot of sports growing up. In Junior High, I was on the wrestling, cross country, tennis and football teams. In High School, I was on the Varsity Gymnastics Team my Sophomore and Junior years. When I was 32, I trained for 3 months to participate in an Eco-Challenge Sprint Triathlon in Orlando, Florida and continue to Mountain Bike somewhat regularly. Because I participated in sports, I understand that every type of athlete is going to train/use their bodies differently because each sport is going to have/make very specific demands on their bodies.
I take my job very seriously and I ask my clients to do the same. I will utilize all my knowledge to accomplish as much as possible in each session and in our overall treatment plan. People come to me to help them take their life to a new level. Whether that means reducing pain and stress or helping them continue to perform at optimum levels in the gym or in the world of Professional Sports. In either case, I look forward to working with you.
